BADasbestos News April 2009

John Towersey, BADasbestos support worker, has just heard that the project has been awarded £2,300 by McMillan Cancer Support to help promote the group in the borough.

Also East London Community Foundation, under its Grassroots Programme, have awarded £5,000 to help the group develop. Well done John.

What BADasbestos does

Have you been diagnosed with an asbestos disease: asbestosis, mesothelioma, lung cancer, pleural thickening or pleural plaques?

Do you or a relative or friend live in Barking and Dagenham, or a neighbouring borough?

Have you moved away, but were exposed to asbestos when living or working there?

If you want legal advice or other information, please contact the group on the free helpline: 0800 587 1272.

All advice given in confidence, any initial interview by an asbestos specialist lawyer will be free of charge. Lease note not all asbestos illnesses and exposures will be able to obtain compensation.

The next ones are on:

  • Wednesday 27 May 2009
  • Wednesday 24 June 2009
  • Wednesday 29 July 2009

Migrant and Refugee Worker Support

London Hazard Centre offers advice and support to refugee and migrant workers

Abuse of worker's employment rights (including health & safety rights) by employers is rife for refugees and migrant workers. They often have rates of pay less than the minimum wage and endure long and illegal working hours. Accidents and injuries have always been high amongst this group of workers as the Morecambe Bay and other tragedies have highlighted. The London Hazards Centre makes this sector of our community a priority for our services.
