Support for refugee and migrant workers

London Hazards Centre offers information and support to refugee and migrant workers in London

Health risks at work and at home

Workers who are refugees or migrants can face dangerous and sometimes life-threatening conditions in their jobs. Wages in this employment sector can be criminally low. Poor, short-term housing, when not at work adds to the health hazards workers face, often they do not live somewhere long enough to register with a doctor.

What LHC can do: inform, support and empower

At LHC we have an advice service able to assist individuals or groups of refugees or migrant workers whose ignorance of legal standards (or unfamilarity with UK workplace practices and procedures) means they are vunerable to exploitation at the hands of employers. Because you are a refugee or migrant worker doesn't mean you have to put up with rubbish conditions at work and at home.

We are not part of the estabishment, all our work is confidential to you and us

We can give briefings at anytime with a little notice. All our work is confidential, so no-one finds out anything you don't want them know. LHC is a non-governmental organisation (NGO) and a registered charity. We don't have money to hand out but we have got time to help you tackle health hazards (bullying, threats, dangerous working practices, stress, victimsation, racism, sexism, strain injury, risk of infection etc.) in your workplace and in your living environment. LHC is happy to work with Black or Minority Ethnic (BME) or other organisations who are in contact with refugee or migrant workers. We are a small organisation and unable to pay for professional translation services so would welcome your help with this if your English isn't great.
