Shift work is linked to heart attacks and strokes
Shift work is associated with increased risk for heart attacks, strokes, and other cardiovascular events. Employers should have health screening programs in the workplace, if at all possible & give their employees breaks where they can relax and de-stress, and should rationalize their shift scheduling systems “so that they are more ergonomically designed and more aligned with the human body clock or circadian rhythm”.
See OSHA EUROPA report on shift work and heart attacks reporting on a Canadian study published online in the British Medical Journal 26th July 2012 Shift work and vascular events which says “All shift work schedules with the exception of evening shifts were associated with a statistically higher risk of coronary events.”
