Construction Safety Campaign International Workers Memorial Day 28 April 2012
This year the Construction Safety Campaign has decided to focus on one of the earliest cases they were involved in as a campaign when three workers were killed at Watney Street Market, Tower Hamlets. Brothers David and Paul Richardson aged 19 and 17, and Steve Hammond, aged 32, were killed on 22nd September 1990 when they were overcome by toxic hydrogen sulphide gas fumes after they were sent to work in a sewer. Paul Barker survived and said the company had no safety equipment “not even a rope”.
