Join the ‘Action for Rail’ day of action 3 January 2017 at a station near you
UK commuters spend up to 6 times as much of their salary on rail fares as other European passengers
Rail fares have shot up twice as much as wages and inflation over the past decade
Campaigners point to “failed privatisation” as key driver of high fares
‘Action for Rail’ is the TUC and rail union led campaign that fights cuts to jobs and services and campaigns for a national integrated railway under public ownership, and opposes unfair fare increases.
More than 120 ‘actions’ have already been organised condemning the 2.3 per cent increase in rail fares that will be introduced at the beginning of January. There are large demonstrations at mainline stations and actions at stations across the country. So there will be one near you that you can join, or you can add another to the list.
The list of actions that are already organised can be seen at: http://actionforrail.org/day-of-action-on-3rd-january-2017-help-us-end-railripoff/
For your information – there will be infographics on Twitter @actionforrail and on our Facebook page – these will be available from 3 Jan 2017 around 6am.
There will also be a blog on the ‘Action for Rail’ website www.actionforrail.org.uk from just after midnight on 3 Jan. The blog, tweets and Facebook posts will link to an online petition in support of affordable fares and public ownership, so if you can share these – that would be appreciated.
Please send any pictures of actions in your region – or Tweet them to Sharon Sukhram – ssukhram@tuc.org.uk
Best wishes
